A Note from Nicole

A couple of weeks ago, some of the youth attended the City Wide Youth Event at The Rock. It was a great event and really well attended by the youth of Parsons and surrounding communities. There was a guest speaker from Wichita who was very entertaining. His message was powerful and very relevant for young people today. He also happened to be a representative from Compassion International, which is a program based in Colorado that partners children living in extreme poverty with sponsors who agree to send them $32 a month to help them out. The money helps with food, education, medicine and health concerns, water, clothing, and shelter. He had some packets on kids that needed sponsors. We decided that our youth group should sponsor a child. The youth picked out a kid and I filled out the paperwork-he is a 5 year old boy who lives in Haiti. His name is Rikanordand he lives with his parents who are employed as farmers when they can get the work. Rikanord does not attend school yet, but he does regularly attend church activities. He has 3 brothers and sisters and he loves to play group games, marbles, and hide-and-seek. We get to write him letters, and we look forward to receiving letters from him. One of the greatest things that we get to do for him and his family is to pray for them. The money helps out in huge ways and I am sure they are grateful, but nothing is as powerful as prayer. Please join us in prayer for Rikanord and his family and check outside of my office for pictures and otehr information on him.

We are the youth ministry of First Christian Chruch in Parsons, KS. We meet on Sunday evenings from 5 to 7 pm for a time of fellowship which includes games, food, prayer, a Bible lesson and fun that we call REV. Check out our calendar for other upcoming activities. We welcolme new youth (6th-12th grade) to join any of our activities.
